Hotel Genovie hosts a limited number of private events each year. All are by invitation.
All events are private. Attendance requires an invitation from Management or from the hosting party.
Annual Benefit
The annual benefit in support of the Cartwright Foundation's scholarship and science education programmes. Guests gather in the Grand Ballroom from half past eight. A light supper is served. Several scholarships are endowed in the course of the evening, during a brief ceremony that previous attendees have described as, variously, moving, unusual, and difficult to fully recall.
Formal dress required. No photography inside the ballroom. Guests experiencing disorientation after midnight are advised to seek a member of staff, who will be near.
Private Dinner
An evening of considerable tradition. Management selects guests by private invitation. The menu is prepared by staff who have held their positions for a very long time. The wine selection is curated from the hotel's lower cellar, portions of which have not been restocked in decades but which remain, in the assessment of our sommelier, in excellent condition.
The event concludes at an hour that cannot be specified in advance. Previous attendees report that the evening felt both brief and extensive. Overnight accommodations are provided as standard.
Private Commemoration
Held annually on a date determined by Management in the weeks prior. The nature of this event is considered private. Long-standing guests and staff are invited to attend. First-time attendees are welcomed but encouraged to arrive without specific expectations. Photographs are not permitted. Notes and journals are permitted but are rarely legible the following morning.
Attendance is understood to carry with it a commitment to discretion. This is not formalised in writing. It does not need to be.
Drawing Room Evening
Guests gather in the main drawing room with writing materials provided by the hotel. The evening is intended for correspondence — letters, notes, messages of whatever nature the guest feels moved to write. Stationery is of exceptional quality and is provided at no additional charge.
Letters may be addressed to anyone the guest wishes, including those who have passed, those who are absent, or those the guest has not yet met. The hotel accepts no responsibility for responses received thereafter.
The previous season's Cartwright Gala was, by all accounts, a success. Three scholarships were endowed in the natural sciences, and one in a discipline that the Foundation declined to name publicly. The evening proceeded smoothly. One attendee did not depart at the evening's conclusion.
Management notes that this guest has since been accommodated by the hotel and appears content with their situation. The guest's family have been informed. No further details are appropriate for this page.
